SCHÖNAUER Paul, University of Technology Vienna (TUW) (A)
is a PhD candidate who focuses his work on life cycle assessment and environmental product declaration for road materials. He is an active member in various national and international standardization bodies.
FUMAGALLI Matteo, Iterchimica (IT)
is Area Manager at Iterchimica S.p.A., an Italian chemical company that has been manufacturing and selling asphalt additives since 1967. He holds a master’s degree in civil engineering with a specialization in infrastructure and started his career as Laboratory Technician before moving into technical sales.
HRIBAR Dejan, STRABAG d.o.o. (SLO)
In 2004, he graduated as a university graduate civil engineer, and later, in 2014, he earned a PhD in the field of the built environment at the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering, University of Ljubljana. He is employed at STRABAG d.o.o., Ljubljana, where he serves as the Head of the TPA Department and Head of the Laboratory in Ljubljana, Velenje, and Divača. In addition to his managerial duties, he actively participates in quality control of both building and civil engineering projects, as well as in pavement structure design. Over the course of his more than 20-year career, he has contributed to numerous major construction projects in Slovenia. His work also involves research, development, and implementation of advanced materials and technologies in construction. He regularly publishes professional papers and articles at conferences and in technical journals. He is also an active member of professional associations in the field of civil engineering in Slovenia.
KARCHER Carsten, EAPA (B)
is a civil engineer with almost 25 years of experience in the highways sector. After graduating in 1999 he joined the Highway Construction Technology department at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in southwest Germany as a research assistant and received his PhD in 2004. He went on to become head of the department, giving lectures and conducting national and European research projects mainly in the field of asphalt, road construction materials and road pavements. In 2006 Dr Karcher started his own consultancy, Asphalt Pavements for Europe, alongside his work at KIT, providing trainings, consultancy, expert reports, moderations, and presentations. In 2013 he left KIT to focus on his consultancy and his role as Director of the European Asphalt Pavement Association (EAPA), where his main activities were the development of the association, health, safety and environmental issues, political items, lobbying and organisation of events including the E&E Congress. In January 2019 he took over the post as Secretary General for EAPA.
LEB Gilbert, Q-POINT GmbH (A)
is a qualified mechanical engineer and has more than 30 years of experience in the field of digital transformation in a wide range of industries. He supports road construction companies in analysing processes and improving workflows. His expertise shows how optimised digital processes can streamline workflows, cut costs and reduce emissions to make construction more efficient and sustainable.
ZORE Damijan, IGMAT d.d. (SLO)
he graduated in 2001 from the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering. At the company SCT, he worked for six years as Head of Asphalt Works Implementation. Since 2007, he has been employed at the Igmat Institute, where he serves as Head of the Asphalt Laboratory. He has been working with asphalt for 34 years and is the author of numerous professional articles and papers.
SÖRENSEN Anja, EUROBITUME (B)
She is a civil engineer from TU Braunschweig in Germany, with a degree in economics. After research for her PhD, she joint a refining company in Germany to manage their asphalt and bitumen laboratory, and technical customer service. Since 2002 she is working for the associations of the bitumen industry, first for ARBIT and since 2016 for Eurobitume, where she is currently HSE Lead and focal person for Germany and Switzerland. She is also involved in standardization, e.g. as chair of CEN/TC336 “Bitumen and bituminous binders” WG1.
POTTI Juan José, ASEFMA (ES)
has been Technical Director of Eurovia (Spain) from 1984 to 2006, Manager of Eurovia Pôle d’Émulsions from its foundation until 2006 and Project Coordinator of several R&D projects financed by the European Commission. In April 2006 he became the General Director of the Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Asphaltic Mixtures (Asefma); in March 2012 he was elected president and therefore became executive president of Asefma, a position he currently holds. From 2008 to 2013 he was Project Coordinator of the most important Bituminous Mixtures R&D project founded by the Center for Technological and Industrial Development (CDTI) (with a budget of more than 28 million euros) called the FENIX Project. He is currently Vice President of the Spanish Road Association (AEC). Juan José Potti became a member of the EAPA Executive Committee in 2009, was awarded the EAPA Asphalt Advocate of the year award in 2018 and was elected President of EAPA in May 2021.
POMP Ralf, EAPA (B)
After finishing High School in 1981, Military Service for 18 months, studies for five years at the RWTH Aachen he finished as Civil engineer in 1987.
He had different internships in cement-, concrete- and road paving companies. He grew up in the family business from young years on, so he learned to operate cars, lorries, wheel loaders, mixing plants and repair those. Ralf Pomp entered professionally the Matthias Heyer Asphalt- and Concrete Mixing Group in 1988, first in the building materials laboratory, later in operations management, sales and since 1999 as CEO and shareholder. The Matthias Heyer Group is a family-owned asphalt- and concrete mixing and delivering company operated in the third generation situated in Wegberg in the very West of Germany.
He is a member of the regional board in DAV since 2005 and a Member of the EXCO/ Dir group in EAPA since June 2018. From 2023 he is president of EAPA.
BOKIES Marco, DAV (D)
he studied business and tax law at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, graduating with an LL.M. and is Lawyer/Legal Counsel. From 2005 to 2016 he was Managing Director of Environmental Law and Raw Materials Protection at Verband der Bau- und Rohstoffindustrie e.V., Duisburg. Since 2016, he is the director of the German Asphalt Association, DAV, Bonn.
POZNIČ Matic, DARS (SLO)
In 2007, he graduated with a university degree in civil engineering from the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering in Ljubljana. He is employed at the Motorway Company in the Republic of Slovenia, where he has been head of the Rehabilitation Department for 15 years, responsible for managing investments in the existing motorway network. He is a member of the Technical Committee for the preparation of technical specifications for road and railway infrastructure in the thematic area of Road Pavement Structure.
PAVŠIČ Primož, ZAG (SLO)
holds a PhD in chemical sciences from the University of Ljubljana. He has worked in the field of civil engineering since 1996, when he joined the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG), becoming head of the Geomechanical Laboratory in 2000. From 2008 to 2013, he was actively involved in construction operations at company CPL, mainly in research and quality control of asphalts, and later at the Civil Engineering Institute of Slovenia (ZRMK). He is currently employed at ZAG as a development councillor in the Laboratory for Stone, Aggregates and Recycled Materials, where he focuses on research in recycling, reuse, development of new technologies and materials to reduce environmental impacts, and the circular economy within the construction sector.
COTIČ Zvonko, STRUCTUM d.o.o. (SLO)
completed his studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Maribor and obtained the title of Bachelor of Civil Engineering. In 2004, he was employed at Primorje, where he managed the quality control of the Primorje Group. Since 2012 he has been working at STRUCTUM, Institute of Civil Engineering, Ltd. as Director of Research and Development. Throughout his career, he has been developing materials and technologies in the construction industry, especially asphalt and concrete, with a focus on sustainable development. In Slovenia, it is one of the pioneers of the introduction of road recycling technologies, the use of black steel slag and waste tires in asphalt mixtures. He is actively involved in the preparation of Slovenian standards and is a member of several technical committees and associations.
IRZAYEV Samir, RETTENMAIER & SÖHNE GmbH + CO KG (D)
began his career in Baku at Baku Steel Co. as an Assistant Plant Manager and Account Manager. Following this, he held a Sales Manager position at Tenneco GmbH in Edenkoben, Germany, and a role as Key Account Manager OEM at Superior Industries in Bad Durkheim, Germany. Since April 2021, he has been working as a Product Manager at J. Rettenmaier & Sohne GmbH + CO KG in Rosenberg, Germany, where he focuses on the promotion and sales of the VIATOP product range in Eastern Europe, CIS, and Turkey.
LESJAK Romana, Mayor of the Municipality of Črna na Koroškem (SLO)
By profession, she holds a Master’s degree in Administrative Sciences, is a graduate in Administrative Organization and Law, and has additionally completed qualifications as an Economic Technician, Administrator, and Accountant. She has extensive professional experience in the field of public enterprises, municipalities, and public utilities. She is currently serving her fourth term as the Mayor of the Municipality of Črna na Koroškem.
SPIEGL Markus, OMV (A)
Dip. Ing. Dr. Markus Spiegl is working since 18 years for OMV and currently in the position as Advisor for Pricing & Business Development for Black Products. He has 25 years’ experience in the field of Bitumen and asphalt research, and he is representing OMV in various national and international associations like Eurobitume, Gestrata or ZAS
STÜWE Sophie, University of Technology Vienna (TUW) (A)
Dipl. Ing. Sophie Stüwe is a PhD candidate at the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Chemo-Mechanical Characterization of Bituminous Materials at the TU Wien in Austria. Her expertise lies in the field of chemical and mechanical analysis of bituminous materials with a special focus on developing and optimizing an alternative, more realistic ageing method called Viennese Binder ageing.
PUNGERČIČ Franc, Vianova Slovenia (SLO)
In over 20 years of employment at SCT, he participated in the construction of the largest Slovenian infrastructure projects, as well as in the Balkans. Since 2013, he has been the director of Vianova Slovenija d.o.o., the leading company in Slovenia in the field of technologies, processes, and products based on bitumen emulsions.
